Lasiren

Every page hides a community.

Lasiren is a browser extension that reveals the voices gathered behind every web address. You open a page, and the thread is there: what is being said, what is being rated, what is being highlighted. Without leaving the tab.

What it does

  • ✦One conversation per address — the thread lives on the page itself, not in a big forum off to the side
  • ✦Highlight a passage and comment on it: it stays marked in gold for whoever comes along after you
  • ✦Rate the page with stars, reply, vote, report what goes too far
  • ✦In real time: messages arrive while you read
  • ✦Anonymous by default — no account needed to take part
  • ✦It speaks French, Spanish and English, following your browser's language
  • ✦No ads, no tracking, no reselling of data

Why free?

Because an empty town square is no use to anyone. Lasiren only makes sense if there are people in it. It's AppSolidaire's gift to the web: the paid apps are the ones that fund groups, not this one.

Download and install

What to know first

  • •Beta version — Lasiren is under construction. There still aren't many people in it, and things can break.
  • •Firefox only, on a computer.
  • •It disappears when you close Firefox. Mozilla hasn't signed it yet, so Firefox only loads it “temporarily”: you have to load it again at every startup (two clicks).

The day Mozilla signs it, it will be one click and it stays installed, with automatic updates. That's exactly what we're working on.

  1. 1Download the .xpi file with the button above.
  2. 2Open about:debugging in the address bar.
  3. 3Click This Firefox, on the left.
  4. 4Click Load Temporary Add-on… and choose the file you downloaded.

Chrome, Edge, Brave and Safari: not yet. Installing there means switching to “developer mode”, and we'd rather wait for the official stores than ask you to do that.

And then

Go to any public web page. Lasiren's gold bubble appears on its own, at the bottom right: click it, and you're in the conversation.

Your privacy

Nothing leaves your page until you open the panel. No advertising profile, no reselling of data. You choose what name you speak under — or you stay anonymous.
